PJF's second team entertained an experienced Chobham third team. Unfortunately due to late unavailability the game had to be played with uncontested scrums. The PJF side had been making strides towards improving on last seasons disappointing season. The side is very young but already there are signs that they are beginning to understand the game at senior level. Chobham scored two converted tries to take an early 0-14 lead. But heads didn't drop and PJF scored two converted tries of their own to go in all squre at half time.
The second half began and Chobham had regrouped, their experience telling and they scored two converted tries to re-establish their 14 point lead. PJF then struck back to bring the score to 21-28. The game entered the last 15 minutes and Chobham gained a penalty on the edge of PJF's 22m. Looking to re-establish a two score lead they elected to kick the points to take the score to 21-31. PJF then struck back with a really well worked try to close the gap again to 28-31. Chobham using their experience to retain the ball worked another opportunity to score wide out. The conversion was missed. PJF came back immediately and created another opportunity and another well worked try was scored and kicked to make it a one point game. In the dying sends on the last play of the game PJF broke free on their 10m line and ran in for the winning score. The conversion was missed, the only one of the afternoon. It was a great display from the youngsters who battled on to win through in the end.
Many of the side can and will improve and, if they keep going as strongly, will have a very good season. From last season's disappointments the side have shown a desire and determination to improve and it is very pleasing to see how much they are enjoying the results their efforts are producing. So well done to everyone who played on Saturday.
