PJF effectively fielded a second string Vets side at Warlingham on Saturday.

Both sides fielded several ex first XV members PJF's from at least 7 years ago whilst Warlingham's were playing as recently as last season

PJF forward dominance set the pattern for the game as Warlingham tried and failed to take them on up front. A valued guest appearance from Dave Rotherham saw him drill home 3 conversions and 2 penalties. His command of the backs provided a sterling defensive line and a potent gain line breaking attack.

PJF defied their age to take the game to their opponents defending tiggerishly and grafting to make the hard yards going forward.

Luke O'Shea had a good match driving hard on many occasions, forcing several defenders to bring him down. Tony Hanson tackled fiercely during the game and the youngster James Bourke, who at 21 was less than half the average age of his team mates, was ever-present around the park.

Paul Cripps opened the scoring after a series of breaks and drives saw him follow up in support and take the try scoring pass. Soon after a foray and sustained series of pressure drives drew the home side to give away a penalty try. Warlingham retaliated with an attack that began from deep in their own half and through swift hands they ran hard for the line, only to be thwarted by Martin Cripps who unfortunately was alleged to have mad a high tackle. The ensuing penalty try brought the home side to within a score of PJF.

The second half saw PJF's pack work hard to encamp themselves in the attack zone. Good retention and quick possession released Rotherham who drew the tackle, kept the ball alive and fed his centre, Mark, to score under the posts. PJF used the wind to their advantage and pegged Warlingham in their own 22. PJF then added two penalties to stretch their lead even further. Warlingham scored a consolation try and ran out of time to take anything from the match.

At one stage towards the end and after 5 reset scrummages, PJF skipper MacHugh asked his pack to take it easy in the scrums as their much younger opponents were out of breath and struggling.
