Marlin set new record- hot on the heels of England!

The long season was beginning to have its toll, with a few out of action through injury, in what was the 20th competitive fixture for this season. Marlins were supported by two old foes from Chipstead- Forrest and Ryan, aptly named for the game at hand

PJFRFC played this game 2 men short, though never seemed perturbed by this. Reem opened the score card within a few minutes, shimmying his way through the opposition to score under the post. Trumper added to this tally with a darting run from within the half to let Streatham and Croydon know that the game was on. Ryan stepped up to support the scrum half, Tom Browne, leading to some early steals from the base of the opposition scrum. This led to a good platform of attacking rugby through the hands of Norm, Trumper and Reem, in midfield. Norm linked well with aptly named Forrest and then Ryan (who didn't need saving) to score the third for PJFRFC, followed soon after by another try for Reem, though this time it was a timed sprint to the line, with no swaying of the hips!! be it only 45 yards. This awoke the sleeping Goliath, with a formidable pack, and many years of jostling under their belly. Streatham and Croydon replied through three quick successive tries, all coming from forward dominance and several rolling mauls, Eddie Jones would have been happy with the "proper rugby" on display. The wind on their backs was beckoning PJFRFC to add to their tally. The score was 24-17, when some individual brilliance by Reem, with support from Ryan and Forrest led to three further tries shared between Norm, Ryan and Reem. PJRFC were ahead at half time 43-17.

A determined Streatham and Croydon came off the blocks competing at break downs and set pieces, only to be curtailed through a grounded performance by veteran front row Dave Mole, aided by Ryan and Forrest. This translated into confidence, even beginning to tell in the line out where PJFRFC, began to exert some pressure on the Veteran, well rehearsed Streatham and Croydon pack. This pressure was duly repaid through a tired Sizeable pack unable to get round the park, aiding PJFRFC' Marlins game plan for open rugby. Marlins were able to unleash Reem, who went on to score 5 tries, and establish himself as the highest try scorer in the league. The PJRFC midfield added two further scores through Trumper and Norm, again facilitated by excellent link play between forwards- Paddy, Ryan and backs, working through 3-4 phases and utilizing the width, through the speed in the camp. The forwards found a new rhythm, exploring the opposition territory frequently, through Jules and Paddy, though Streatham and Croydon made sure they worked hard for each inch gained. The forwards were also rewarded with tries for Ryan, Forrest and Jules. This brought the final tally to 81-24, a well deserved win. Marlins extend their unbeaten run to 11 games, hot on the heels of England!! Bec old Boys travel next week to the Pightle to attempt and tame the Marlins. Three games to go, till the end of the season for the Marlins, how many more records to be broken?
