This away game had all the hallmarks of a come back, the right balance of youth with experience, a few returning stars in their twilight years, and a team hungry to establish a running rhythm. PJRFC were late to get to the warm up moments, as the Croydon Crawl got everyone's jumpers in a twist!
The referee made it clear that he would not tolerate any internationals off duty, and so the game began with all tensions focused on the pitch. It seems "I am Bolt" had inspired a competitive spirit between Kareem and Damo with a try a piece within the first 15 minutes. The veteran pack with a combined age Equivalent to the weight of the pack in full swing, breakdowns were well policed by Milner, Kim, MacHugh and Dilieto leading to an exciting brand of open rugby, leading to 7 tries being scored. Kim the Fisher teacher turned morale booster kept the 8 pick up and go option alive. Bilchy the veteran 12 ensured that the ball did not get beyond the centre pair. Norm not wanting to left out, had to be coerced out following a blood injury, but ensured he got on the score card. Del Boy played his hustler card, with a slow start and sprint finish to the line, to get on the score card too. Trumper at 15 ensured no up and unders bounced off the floor. A polished performance from a maturing team of so solid crew.
Chipstead at home next week, and top of the table to finish the year! It is an early Christmas.
