It was cited as a game of two halves in which PJF completely dominated the first half and found themselves comfortably ahead at half time 40-5. The side gelled from the off and good hard forward graft was complimented by fluent back play.
Kev McNally marshaled the back line and managed to use the breeze to peg the opponents in their own half for much of the time. Bilchy and Padraig ran hard and fast creating good space and territorial advantage. The dominance of the front 5 allowed the back row to comfortably join in with the backs creating overlaps and excellent re-cycled possession that contributed to a total, percentage rugby pattern.
Tries were classily scored in the corners and the whole game was very fluid without any retaliation from the hosts.
This however, and rather inevitably these days, changed as Mids went to uncontested. PJF also rang the changes at half time using the friendly match to blood a few of the John Fisher School recent leavers. Despite technical and fitness ability the lads found living at Senior rugby a step up. Still we've all trod this path and the adjustment will come.
So instead of using their prowess to scrummage the Mids forwards used their mobility and saved energy ( from not scrummaging) to beast it up and take the game back to PJF. A little bit of complacency mixed with lack of concentration (especially in the tackle) meant that PJF let Mids take something from the table when they had not been entitled to.
Still a wins a win and congratulations to the side for this valiant result against local opposition.
