Purley John Fisher produced one of their best performances this weekend as they triumphed over Ellingham and Ringwood outscoring them by 4 tries to 2.

In front of a large, well fuelled, Partisan crowd (courtesy of a Past Players Lunch) they worked hard and dug deep to overcome opponents that were above them in the League and had already beaten PJF earlier in the season.

It was however the visitors who started the better of the two sides as they reaped the early rewards of keeping the game flowing, crossing over within 10 minutes. Quick hands freed their impressive centre who fed the supporting scrum half to score. Their fly half notching the conversion and soon after a penalty, had PJF pegged at 0-10. PJF stuck to their task and through a series of pick and drives encamped themselves in the E&R 22. From a line out - where PJF ruled the game - they set the rolling mail in motion, allowing flanker Callum Law to open PJF's account with a pushover try.

The game picked up pace in the second half and was nip and tuck for the first 10 minutes or so. PJF worked hard through the front five, who secured good possession both in the set pieces and in the loose. From a series of quick re-cycling and good support play in the forwards, PJF then cut loose their backs through fly half Tom Cambell. They dragged E&R across the paddock in both directions before centre Piotr Swiatkiewicz bullied his way through the covering defence to score a try.

Despite this pressure and unable to secure any steady first phase possession, E&R's backs were dangerous off the cuff and looked sharp on the counter attack. From a passage of play their scrum half took a quick tap penalty and caught PJF asleep as he ran in unchallenged to score and take the match to 10-15. PJF then reverted to old skool rugby; much to the baying crowd's pleasure, stuck the ball up their jumpers and trundled up the pitch. Their opponents, having no defence for these effective drives, were on the back foot and soon encamped 10 yards out from the try line. Another successful take in the line by Captain Tom Leather, saw them drive and with an overlap of 3 players, scrum half Pete Bennett cheekily feigned to pass out, dummied the cover and nipped in under the posts for try number 3. Centre for the day, Dan Crumplin slotted the conversion.

To round off the match PJF sprung another attack from their half as first prop James Quigley, then second row Tom Leather punched hard and deep into the opponents territory. The ball was released to the backs and PJF stretched E&R one way and then the other to finally reach the hands of right wing Nick Owen, who, with a good head of steam, thundered through the cover and ran in PJF's 4th try - again Crumplin made the conversion.

So another 5 point win that should secure PJF's survival in this League for next season and at last they realised the latent potential that lurks within. PJF's next game is on 5th April away to New Milton and District.
