PJF set about their opponents not only with a determination to take something from the fixture but a resolve to show that they are slowly starting to get it together. This performance underlined a 2 month period where, weather permitting, they had beaten Deal and Warlingham and run top sides Judds and Hove close. A sprightly start by PJF saw them rewarded with 2 well taken Dom Brown penalties. Bromley's response was to venture into the PJF half on 2 occasions and despite being awarded 2 penalties themselves were unable to take advantage and level the scores. PJF took heart from this and through a sweeping move set winger Tom Casey free to open the try tally. Soon after his wing partner Mike Cartilage crossed the line and PJF started to pull away. So PJF were 16-0 up at half time and looking good value for it as well.
PJF's success in the first half stemmed from very good first phase possession. This was an area of concern earlier in the season however the front 5 scrummaged well and the jumpers Steve Brown and Neil Leather both secured good ball, setting a platform for the threequarters to attack from. This continued in the second half as an attack from half way flowed through the backs' hands allowing Cartlidge to cross for his second try. Bromley started to shore up their defence and used the short ball around the base of breakdowns to their advantage. From a take and drive at the line out they managed to score a try. This was during a phase were PJF took their eye off the game a little, yielding several penalties and consequently vital yardage.
Switching the concentration levels back on, PJF's retaliation was swift and hard. Three tries followed all from attacks from within their own half. Casey, Sia and Knight all broke the gain line and offloaded to eventual scorers Derry Coughlan and Tom Leather. A try was also scored by the impressive open side flanker Phil Jones, a product of the connection with John Fisher School. Brown rounded of the show with 2 conversions. Bromley managed 2 further scores which allowed them to take more from the game than they really should have. But job done PJF can now look to build and approach the remaining games of the season with more heart. A good performance all round.
