Another try bonus point achieved in the first half

A sunny day at Hook saw PJF turn up hoping to pick up where they left off the previous week. From the kick off PJF put pressure on Kingston. But within the first few minutes Kingston drew first blood when their fly half slotted a penalty form the PJF 10m line. PJF restarted and forced an error form Kingston and drove deep into the Kingston 22. The ball was then spun out wide by PJF going through the hands quickly and finally Joe Casertelli crossed the whitewash unopposed. The Kick was missed. From the kick off PJF let the ball bounce and Kingston jumped on the loose ball and went over the PJF line to retake the lead. The conversion was kicked. From the restart PJF didn't manage to put pressure on Kingston and allowed them to run the ball back. A couple of passages of play saw Kingston break PJFs line and go over for a second try which they duly converted to take a 17-5 lead. PJF picked up the pace and started to string some good passages of play together. Alex went over for a great score. With the conversion the score narrowed to 17-12 to the home side. From the kick off PJF returned to the attack driving deep into the Kingston 22 and good forward ball saw a classic number 8 pickup from Alex Wilson who laid it off for Jack to nip over for one of his hallmark tries. Unfortunately the kick was missed. It was now a tied game. Once again the PJF forwards drove Kingston back and created enough space to allow Seaghan to burst through the Kinston line to touch down under the posts. Pierce kicked the goal. PJF now had their noses in front and a bonus point in the bag. Kinston regrouped and started to pressurise the PJF line. Turned over in the 22 PJF came away with the ball but ran straight into trouble and from the ensuing play Kingston went over the PJF line but missed the kick. From the restart Kingston returned to the attack. and after a clumsy challenge PJF received a yellow card. Both sides went in at half time with PJF holding a slender lead 24-22.

The second half saw the two sides tiring and opportunities were created then spurned by both sides but eventually PJF broke the second half deadlock and added the extra points to take a 31-22 lead. Kingston did not lie down and playing with the hill drove into the PJF half. A series of mistakes saw PJF concede a number of penalties and from a 5 m line out and a couple of rucks Kingston managed to cross the PJF line and work their way back into contention. The home side succeeded with the kick, the score now 31-29 to PJF. A period of desperate defence by PJF saw Luke Couchman make the tackle of the day to deny Kingston on the line. Unfortunately Luke had to leave the field with a damaged shoulder which we hope is not to serious an injury. Kingston continued to press but failed to find a way through the PJF defence despite PJF conceding a number of penalties. The game came down to one such penalty decision that saw Kingston have a shot at goal about 10m in from the touch. Were PJF to be denied at the last? The kick slid past the post and PJF heaved a collective sigh of relief. From the 22m restart PJF kicked deep only to see the ball kicked back. With a minute on the clock Kingston mounted one final attack which fizzled out when they conceded a penalty Seaghan kicked to ball dead and PJF had won a very close game.

PJF can reflect that they conceded a couple of soft tries and put pressure on themselves. But with a bonus point in the bag PJF are 10 out of 10.
