Joe Dwyer bags a hat trick of tries

PJF came out of the blocks quickly despite the weather taking a turn for the worse. In pouring rain PJF mounted a sustained assault on the OWs line and after some smart work in the 22 Joe Dwyer went over in the corner. Unfortunately he seemed to pull a calf muscle and came off. With a suspected torn calf muscle Joe was wondering whether he would see any further action. As the weather intensified and rain turned to hale PJF continued to push scoring a second try again the conversion was narrowly missed. With Jon Osborne marshalling the backs from fly half PJF continued to press as the weather eased off. The best try of the afternoon saw PJF cross the line after sweeping up the right wing with off loads creating space for the support players. The handling belying the slippery conditions. OWs then stirred themselves and enjoyed a period of pressure that saw them cross close to the posts. 15-7 and the chase was on. With the first half drawing to a close PJF won a penalty in front of the OWs posts and Liam Murphy slotted the kick to bring his tally to 3 pts and take PJF onto 18.
The game almost the exact opposite from the previous week saw PJF go in to the second half 18 - 7 to the good. The weather brightened and Joe Dwyer re-joined the fray. PJF worked themselves into a good position and some quick passing saw the ball into the hands of Joe who stepped two players and ran in the try close to the posts, the conversion was kicked. OWs came back driving hard and their endeavour was rewarded with a try in the corner. The conversion missed PJF were 25 - 12 to the good. OWs continued to press and PJF found it hard to break out of their 10m line. Effort noticeably flagging and OWs getting ever closer to the line, Jon Osborn broke free to run the ball from his 22m to OWs 22m where he off loaded the ball to the man of the moment Joe who went in for the hat trick.
This proved to be the last score of the day and PJF ran out winners by 30 - 12. The members who had earlier in the day enjoyed an excellent Past players lunch dedicated to all the past player who had departed us this season. The game a fitting tribute to their memory. PJF showed a glimmer of their potential.
