Game slips away in final quarter as PJF throw caution to the wind

The game started well enough with PJF going into a three point lead within 3 minutes of the start. PJF's front row struggled against the Law Society's hefty front row. The weight in the scrums took its toll and Law Society scored a couple of tries to take a 12-3 lead. But PJF stuck at it and Chase Thompson crashed over just before half time with Dan Wilkinson slotting the extra points. With Law Society going in 12 -10 up at half time PJF were in good shape.
At the start of the second half PJF continued to exert pressure and scored a great try early on in the half to take a 17 -12 lead. From the kick off PJF were guilty of a number of errors which allowed Law Society to square the game. The Law Society then brought back their big prop and this caused PJF problems, and unable to clear the red zone, Law Society bulldozed their way over to take back the lead. PJF's kicking game had functioned well but they could not buy lineout ball and therefore struggled all afternoon to clear their lines. Knowing that a win was needed PJF flung the ball out with abandon, the problem was that more often than not it was done in their own half. Errors were inevitable with such a strategy and the errors that did occur were punished by Law Society. Having worked their way back into the game twice, a lack of patience and silly errors cost PJF the game and they eventually ended on a losing score of 37 - 24. There was a lot of good endeavour during the afternoon with the front row sticking to their task manfully and a good performance from Connor Lambert on his debut at scrum half. Jon Osbourne ran strongly throughout the afternoon and Chase Thompson took his opportunities well scoring one try and played an integral part in the scoring of another. In the final analysis it was a frustrating game to watch and a frustrating game to play in.
PJF have to find a way to consolidate their own line out ball. The side also needs to think more about the options that present themselves during a game and to mix their points of attack to give oppositions more to think about when defending. With 15 games gone the second half of the season continues to be a mirror image of the first half of the season. With some time on the paddock over the next couple of weeks the side can return to winning ways but with the unpredictable results in the league PJF may well find their destiny taken out of their hands.
