Close fought victory in the balance until final minutes

On an overcast day PJF started well enough with Joe Dwyer crossing the whitewash on the 12 minute mark. Massimo Gengemi coming close with the conversion. Three minutes later PJF extended their lead when Massimo slotted a penalty. Five minutes later Ubaka Onyekwelu went over after a sparkling piece of footwork that kept him out of the clutches of the Law. At this point PJF switched off and became more intent on debating the referees decisions. Distracted and giving up a series of penalties PJF could not stop the Law Society from driving over from a line out in the PJF 22. PJF relinquishing all the momentum created in the first 20 minutes of the half allowed Law Society to drive over from short range on 34 minutes. The half that started with such promise ended with Massimo slotting another penalty allowing PJF to go into half time 16 - 10 up.

The second half saw PJF adopt more direct tactics with the forwards driving up the middle and making ground readily. The pressure could not be converted into points and Law Society weathered the storm and then started to exert pressure of their own. On the thirty minutes mark of the half Law Society crossed the PJF line to make it a one point game. From the restart PJF forced a penalty close to the 10m line of the Law Society and the resulting kick set up a line out on the Law Society 5 m line. The line had been functioning reasonably well so it was disappointing to see the ball cut out at the front of the line and knocked down by the Law Society player, Liam Murphy reacted quickly on following his throw in he pounced on the bobbling ball and dived over in the corner. PJF now had a 6 point cushion, but a converted try could still deny PJF the win. Law Society piled on the pressure in the closing minutes but PJF managed to turn the ball over and Ryan Snadden broke out of he 22 and charged up the field only to be brought down on the half way line. A few me passages of play saw Shane van der Schyff crash over to secure the game. Liam Murphy added the conversion. The result a comfortable 28 - 15 win for PJF. The game however was anything but comfortable and PJF must become more disciplined and ruthless if they are not to see future games snatched away. The welcome return to winning ways see PJF move off the bottom of the table. Next week PJF play hosts to Old Georgians in a game that has been rearranged as a home game because Old Georgians do not have their ground available.
