PJF have a run out before resuming league campaign

PJF played OMW o Saturday. A friendly to help shake off the over indulgence of the Christmas period. Both sides had key players missing and the first half was a fairly scrappy affair. OMW scored the first points of the half when they worked their way into the PJF 22m. From a set scrum a couple of missed tackles saw OMS slip in for a soft try. The extra points were added. The OMW scrum had been giving PJF problem all the half and after a couple of penalties given for popping up in the scrum the referee awarded a penalty try on the stroke of half time when the scrum appeared to slip and go down. PJF went into the half time break 14-0 down.
At half time the scrum was reorganised and this was to show a marked improvement in the PJF scrum which went onto the offensive. The second half saw a big improvement. The level of rugby stepped up and PJF looked far more threatening. The harrying pressure PJF applied resulted in a turnover followed by a great piece of rugby which saw the forwards go through the phases before releasing to the backs who quickly put it through hands and the PJF winger went over in the corner for the try of the game. The conversion was missed. From the kick of OMW turned PJF over just outside of the 22m line and after a period of pressure OMW got the try back. Again the kick was missed and despite some good rugby from PJF no more points were scored.
It was a good post Christmas test and PJF managed to blow away a few of the Christmas cobwebs. Next week PJF resume the league programme with the return fixture against Kingston RFC at Kingston, in Hook, near Chessington. Kick off at 2.15.
