PJF produced one of their better performances this weekend as they dispatched visitors Old Wimbledonians 63-0 in this London 3 South West League fixture. Inside 5 minutes PJF’s good open play and quick recycling phases, saw the ball reach Tom Casey who

There then followed a period of 10 minutes good intensity from PJF which Alistair Fox sealed with an audacious drop goal.

This settled the home side and incisive play from centres Fox and Mike Tuke gained PJF both territory and good field positions to launch further attacks. The usual forward dominance in the set pieces was augmented by superb rucking and mauling in second and third phase play. From such a passage of play the commanding Dan Leidecker broke down the blind side and found enough room to score a try.

From the ensuing kick off PJF secured possession and through aggressive running were soon back in OW’s 22. The scrum supremacy inevitably paid off and led to No 8 Laurence Griffiths’ first of a hat trick of tries, by touching down from a pushover. Moments later PJF replayed the scenario with another hard scrum drive across the whitewash for Griffiths’ second try with Leidecker converting.

From the restart PJF swept down the paddock as Leidecker, Tuke, Fox and Nick Owen shredded all that was put in front of them. Another series of quick possession from rucks and mauls, saw flanker Ollie Booth pop up to score from close range. With minutes left of the first half Owen caught his own kick ahead and ran hard and deep into OW’s half; the following scrum was taken against the head and quick hands freed Fox to score leaving PJF 37-0 ahead at half time.

For 15 non scoring minutes in the second half OW’s regrouped and showed a resilience that frustrated PJF who were not able to play with the abandon that they had in the first half. Commensurate with this OW’s bravely attacked from their own goal line, Fox hit his opposing number who spilled the ball and Leidecker quickly reacted to score and then convert his own try. Soon after Casey made a searing break and fed his flanker Booth, who drawing his man gave a sublime pass to see Scott Kerr fly in from 30 yards out. From the restart the ever present Booth stole the ball from a maul and made a break into OWs half. Again showing a never say die spirit OWs attempted to run from their own 22 this time Fox intercepted and ran in for his second try of the game. To cap the game off Griffiths picked up from another take against the head and with a determination powered his way over from 20 yards out.

Any of the following would be contenders for man of the match - Griffiths with his hat trick of tries, Leidecker with an amassed 20 points, Booth with his scavenging or Fox and Tuke for their ground breaking runs. It was a good win and improved the points difference securing PJF as second in the League.

Next week will provide a sterner test as they visit League leaders and as yet unbeaten Cobham.
