PJF secured their first London 3 SW League win of the season in this close fought match with their visitors from the Channel Islands. Guernsey seemed to have the trip still in them as PJF took the initiative in the early stages and hit half time 13-3 to t

Soon after the restart PJF stretched their lead to 18-3 but then dangerously saw this evaporate before their eyes. Guernsey mounted a resilient last 20 minutes and were 23-24 ahead when James McPartland coolly struck the dying minutes penalty that saw PJF nick the result.

A spirited and expansive start by both sides evidenced the pre-season preparation that these sides had been through. Although PJF held the territorial advantage in the early exchanges, Guernsey were quite sprightly with the ball in their hands. PJF’s persistence saw 2 successful Sorrel penalties matched by 1 from the visitors. Quick hands and swift ball saw full back Leidecker cut a swathe through the defence, hit the gas and score under the posts. Sorrel converted.

Within minutes of the second half re-start centre Campbell-Carson drifted in attack, created sufficient space for himself to score and take PJF into a comfortable 18-3 lead. Guernsey’s committed and more aggressive play in the contact area saw them secure territorial position allowing them to strike back at PJF. With a one man advantage, through a PJF sin binning, the visitors played well to score an unanswered 3 converted tries to lead 18-24 going into the last 10 minutes.

From a kicked clearance winger Owen returned the ball with interest over 40 yards and the ensuing quickly handled possession saw PJF cross the line and set up the nail biting last 5 minutes.

So PJF have used their first get out of jail card for this season and it is hoped that will not need to use any more. Next week they play away to Tottonians.

Choppa is to be congratulated in captaining the Second XV to a fine 26-17 win over Battersea Ironsides. The Young players (Scarborough excepted) gelled well and gave a good account of themselves. It was good to see some new faces and to those guys playng for the first time - Welcome and well done.
