Good set piece discipline gave them a solid base to work from and in a swirling wind they gained sufficient territorial advantage allowing Matt Vaughan to kick two penalties. Having settled themselves, PJF then strung together several phases of play managing to attack their hosts at various points along their defensive line. Relentless pressure and quick support saw man of the match Ollie Booth hit the line and cross for PJF’s opening try.
PJF sat comfortably at half time 13-0 in the lead. Their opponents managed a rare trip into the PJF half early after the re-start and returned with a penalty kick that lifted them for a couple of minutes. This was, however, all that the Eagles had to offer even as PJF encountered playing 20 minutes with 14 men. Firstly John “He’s lost it” Cox and then Ollie “Make Luke O’Shea my Man of the Match” Booth, were sin binned back to back.
PJF controlled the game further by reverting to type, as they got their hands on the ball and were soon pressurising through good ball retention and re-cycling. From a quickly taken penalty Vaughan scored PJF’s second try and the final result was achieved.
Next week it’s Bognor or Bust as PJF take up their League programme again, back on the road to the coast. It’s a very important match against tough opposition and will prove a vital part of PJF’s season.
