Sporting their new shirts PJF started slowly and allowed their visitors to take the initiative and camp on thier 22 metre line for the first twenty minutes. Once PJF managed to get their pack rumbling forward they soon took a grasp of the match and from a scrum the sprightly Doyle belied his years to cut through the defence on the blind side. Sprinting from 30 yards out he found no resistance and went over to open the scoring.
PJF had Chichester on the back foot as their pack destroyed them at all the set pieces. Under pressure the visiting pack firstly settled for line and kick agains rather than take the scrum option. Then they resorted to shortened lineouts as Lorraine and Wilson fleeced them on their own throws. It wasn't long until Skipper Kerr's obligatory try, when he latched on to the back of a rolling maul which followed on from an effective series of drives and recycles.
PJF were thwarted after the restart as Alvarez and Kerr drove their side the length of the pitch. At the ensuing ruck PJF were harshly penalised for retaliating to an infringement which they considered prevented them from scoring their third try.
The second half saw PJF use the strong wind behind them to their advantage as Fisher, Vaughan and Doyle kicked deep to keep the visitors turning and on the back foot. This gave PJF backs a chance to chase and hound the Chichester back three. Under such pressure mistakes were made and frustration crept in and PJF extended their
lead through Fisher and Vaughan penalties. One such punt over their heads saw the winger and full bakc fumbled the ball allowing Vaughan to collect and cross over for a try.
PJF suffered when first Lorraine and then Alvarez were sin binned, with seven in the pack PJF continued to pressure their opposing eight and from a scrum 5 meteres out from the Chichester line they drove hard for the line. When the opposing scrum half dived in to stop the ry it was ajudged to be illegal and PJF were awarded a penalty try. Charlie Fisher scored the conversion and took his personal match tally to 14 as he followed up a grubber kick to score the final try which he converted.
