PJF flattered to deceive in this London SE3 League fixture away to hosts Aylesford on Saturday. An impressive and suffocating first half saw them ease to a 30 point lead through solid and well structured play. PJF executed four well worked tries and made

However the second half saw them on the back foot and despite sustaining much pressure for 30 minutes gave way as Aylesford created 2 goals through determined forward play.

PJF’s effective centre Raurie Campbell-Carson led the way punching a hole in the home side’s defence and then freed Steve Alvarez to cross over the line. Charlie Fisher added this conversion to his earlier penalty extending PJF’s lead to 10-0 in as many minutes. PJF worked hard to gain ground and were rewarded by another Fisher penalty.

Soon after, a good line out take by Mike Lorraine set the forwards in motion and through quick re-cycling Matt Vaughan ran hard and fast to score out wide. Immediately from the restart PJF’s forwards moved the ball well on the blindside where the Veteran second row Nick Wilson, found himself in space with the line beckoning. Rolling back the yards and the years he ran very fast and scored PJF’s third try.

PJF rounded off the half with a quick tap penalty and some punishing passes which Campbell-Carson seized upon from 40 yards out to split the defence and round off a good half’s work crossing the whitewash for his second try. So the score was 30-0 at half time, and PJF’s purring performance had silenced the home crowd.

For the second half Aylesford adopted a kicking policy which kept the PJF line turning and managed to encamp themselves on PJF’s lines for 30 minutes. They then benefited from some disruption to PJF’s backline as scrumhalf Pete Doyle was sin binned for an infringement at a ruck and then Vaughan blood binned. During this period the home side scored a converted try. With the heat and several hard knocks beginning to take their toll on PJF they conceded a late goal.

It was a quiet and reflective warm down as the team realised they could have posted a more convincing result with a better performance in the second half. Testament enough for a side that is growing in stature with each game.
