Drunk-Fish Tour to Lisbon

The 2009/10 end of season tour has been and gone and with a European win on tour firmly under our belts, the best that Portugal could offer for daytime and nightime entertainment was sampled by everyone on tour.
.
A great deal of thanks to Ollie Davis for doing a great job of organising the tour and making sure everyone on tour made it to both flights and the game, and to Dave Carter of The Sheriffs Office for the sponsorship.
.
If you did not make it, you missed out, but you can get a brief taste of the tour from the tour scribe Martin Bruck here.

The PJF Summer Soiree and Awards Night

The summer soiree and awards night at the club on Saturday was a huge success, with a champagne reception, a superb band and exceptional food. Everyone enjoyed the night hugely and the the only dissapointment was the end of the music and the night. The Soiree was held out in the open and was well attended with over 100 people enjoying the summer evening, the company and the wine. The club 2009/10 season's trophies on the night were awarded as follows:

1st XV player of the year - Dave Sia
2nd XV player of the year - Matt Milner
3rd XV player of the year - Austin Vickers
Top try scorer - Kev McNally
Best young player of the year - Philip Jones

Most improved player of the year - Glen Smith
Best Newcomer of the year - James Quigley
Club captains award - Luke O'Shea
Clubman of the year - Peter Knott

The success of the evening was down to everyone that attended, but a special thanks must be said to Douglas Flower, Anne and Paul Edwards who organised the evening, Julian Norton and Bryan Whicher for the superb steak and lobster meal, David Cebreiro for his tireless efforts in making sure the club house looked its best, Richard Cebreiro, Marcus Edwards and Sean O'Reilly for setting up on the day and helping to take the marqees down the following day, and lastly Mal, Michelle and Charlotte Sharp for looking after the bar, making sure everyone was well watered and helping to get everything back into the club before we all went home.

Many people on the night stated "This is probably the best end of season dinner we've ever had..." which just goes to show how many members and guests enjoyed the night. Based on the response of the soiree, the 2010/11 End of Season dinner and Awards Night will have the same venue and format, and we are sure will be as much of a success.

Photographs of the Summer Soiree and awards night can be viewed at the Photo Gallery page

PJF's New Bar

The PJF Summer Soiree also celebrated the opening of the new club bar which has been completely revamped by the club after a deal with our new sponsors Fullers Brewery. The cellar was given a face lift and all new cellar equipment installed including a new beer cooling unit, the old beer lines have been removed and replaced with new lines, and the existing tired beer fonts have been replaced with new modern chrome fonts to give the club a new modern look.

In tandem with this work the club toilets and bar have been decorated and the existing false ceilings and lights have been replaced with new ceilings and down lighters. The clubhouse is now looking better than it ever has, and is a club house PJF members can be proud of for the 2010/11 season.

Club Ethos

Our objective at Purley John Fisher RFC is to build a successful, vibrant and diversified club that our members, players and sponsors will enjoy being a part of.

To achieve this we need to promote rugby across all ages, from youth players to veteran players, covering both mens and ladies rugby, and embrace the true practise of community rugby by inviting all potential young players from the local area and schools to play a rugby at our club.

The club is actively managing a programme of involvement in the local schools and colleges in an attempt to promote the game of rugby in all age groups from 5 to 18 year olds, with a target of starting Mini, Junior and Academy rugby at the club

We also believe that we should embrace other outdoor sports played in the local area, and are seeking to build partnerships with ladies and junior teams that need a permanent home ground, which we as Purley John Fisher can offer.

You will have the satisfaction in the knowledge that your efforts as an active member, and your generous donation as a sponsor, will help us to achieve our goals, as well as being part of a local vibrant club that considers the future of grass roots community rugby.

Rugbytots

If you have kids from 2 to 7 or are interested in earning some extra cash coaching kids on Saturday mornings join Rugbytots.

Rugbytots was started in 2006 to fill a gap in the child development sector by using Rugby specific skills to aid in the development of young children.

Their programme has been designed to develop children’s physical, psychological and social attributes, as well as gently encouraging rugby specific skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try and much more.
.
The success, popularity and growth of Rugbytots across the UK demonstrates the quality of their programme and the coaches who work so hard to consistently deliver. It is therefore no surprise to find that they are the most established, fastest growing and most innovative Rugby play programme for children aged two to seven.
.
All Rugbytots lead coaches are paediatric first aiders, RFU qualified rugby coaches, CRB checked and trained to a very high standard to ensure your children enjoy their time at Rugbytots in a safe and organised environment.

For those applying to become coaches you can earn between £12 and £18 per hour (depending on your level of experience) and training in First Aid and RFU Rugby Coaching Level 1.

There are currently 35 classes being held in Surrey alone, with the nearest to our club being run in Caterham.
